There may be other programs that will do this, but the one below works (for my hardware):

It will allow you to create a Ramdrive (I could allocate about 2.9GB) in memory that is above the 3.2GB limit of XP, i.e. you still have 3.2GB of memory for XP.
You can get it to save the contents to a file on shutdown and load on restart.
The documentation isn't great. You have to turn on the NUMA(?) memory first (File/Options(?) sorry at work) before you can create the drive in unmanaged memory. If warns you about something to do with XP embedded, just say YES. Your mileage may vary. The usual caveat: if in doubt back up first, and don't blame me if it goes pear shaped

This is on the frequently recommended Intel DP35 board. I haven't moved my scope rig into it yet, but don't foresee any issues.
My new E8400 + 8GB 'puter goes like a rocket, web pages snap onto the screen etc.
