Device and presets updated.

I have taken a break from pianos to produce a new synth, Strings Mk1 and is based on the string choruses I have developed. The famous String synths are the EMINENT STRING SYNTH, ROLAND RS202 and the ARP STRING ENSEMBLE and produced a very rich texured chorus.

Strings MK1 is DSP Light to Medium, each chorus (string choruses 1,2 and 3 and standard chorus) can be individually switched off and on.

Mixer 1 controls the direct signal from the oscillator and the outputs from the 3
string choruses, it feeds into mixer 2 and the standard chorus. Mixer 2 controls the
output of mixer 1 plus the output of the standard chorus.

The standard chorus produces a stereo output. The string choruses are mono output but can be panned by mixer 1 to produce a pseudo stereo effect.

The AMP has ASDR and slope controls. The single osc morphs between sine and saw, and
passes through low and high pass filters (use to thin the sound).

Strings Mk1 like the early string synths is best used in the middle and upper keyboard
range. Using a phaser with Stings Mk1 is very effective (as by JM Jarre).

Five experimental piano synths are also included (for those wanting a few more), Which as before are velocity sensitive, mono output and no controls (attack, decay and release are preset). I might produce a few Beta electronic pianos before producing a full combined (acoustic and electronic type) version.

Strings Mk2 when I get round to producing it will probably include a resonant filter,
vibrato, maybe a second oscillator. Any comments and suggestions for improvements
welcome?.

Enjoy

I have just have a DSP overload message when using too much polyphony and switching in too many choruses, never any computer freeze. I am using win 98SE, till I get a new computer with win xp pro. Could be something needs fine tuning in your system?.

There is no difference between switching standard chorus and the string choruses apart from the string choruses using more DSP. The standard chorus is the same as the Chorus S in Scope.

interesting device and good idea.

I have the same problem of megerov, i can open presets with the standard chorus on, but i can't touch it with the mouse.
I'm on win xp pro sp2, the system shut down without any advice or blue screen.

Thanks again for some good stuff. It is DSP heavy at 8 voices, so I will sample it into GS3 w/ some help from a friend of ours. I mixed it with my ARP String Ensemble, and Melotron samples from Sonic Implants, which were decent, but your device will give them a nice sonic boost! Life just keeps getting better all the time. I have got so much done with a week off of my gigging. Can't wait for Spring Break!!

Interesting device, maybe even just what I needed.

But it made my system crash without even showing the bluescreen when I tried to choose a preset.

I'm running XP Pro SP2 too.

I will be watching this device though!
Cheers!

I cannot get my present old Win 98SE computer to crash with a blue screen (with the low latency settings) and continually switching the standard chorus off/on and switching between presets.

I have looked at the standard chorus I used (from the SDK) and its uses PC delay (high PCI activity). My string choruses use DSP delay (low PCI activity). Everything I have used is standard SDK so I cannot see why this is happening.

Have you tried different latency settings and sample rates on your PC's?.

Have you tried it at 25ms latency?.

Do the old Wavelenght device and John Bowens Python Pro demo version have the standard type chorus?. There must be a link somewhere.

The "scope.sys" error producing the blue screen is a driver error. You could try changing your Scope (Win XP pro) Drivers for early or later ones and see if that improves things.

I see Scope 4.5 ships with 1.50.12 but there are 1.50.13 and 1.50.17 drivers out there for Win XP.

All driver version and all latency same problem

With Wavelenght Thrust not problem chorus - this problem is when remove synth from sfp desktop.

And Python Pro demo ( do not know problem - all presets crashed )

Hi All,

megerov, steffensen, djmicron, petal and virtualstudio all report the same problem with a "scope.sys" error producing a blue screen on Win XP Pro, but scope4live system seems to working.

What version of Windows are you using scope4live when using Strings MK1?.

I am starting to work on a 'LITE' version of Strings MK1 (version 0.2) we will see if that makes any difference.

I'm on XP pro sp2.
I had no sound at all when I loaded it. then I choose a preset and it crashed (no blue screen )

I don't think chancing latency is an option for only one device because the rest works well.

Hi All,

I have found I made a mistake which affected the polyphony and therfore the DSP load.

You will be pleased to know the DSP load is now reduced to light to medium (depending on number of String Choruses used) . When the problems with the Chorus S are sorted out will update the device.

sounds like really cool device! we need more of those! let us know as soon as you have finished the "lite" version ( we have far too many "analog"-subtractive-style synths here, thanks for making something different!and yes I know that this is in away a synth as well..)

I was going to say I've got 3 luna 2's and with 1 string chorus monophonic it's already overloaded.Yep there is a problem.

Strings MK1 updated.

Works in Win XP ( since I changed standard chorus) and DSP usage is light to medium.
