hi out there.

just got pulsar3 and did some test on my pulsar1 board. after some tricky stuff, I got cubase5 working with the xtc plugins.

BUT: the latency of 25 ms is horrible!! is there an easy way to get rid of this ? I already tried "correct plugin latency" (or so..) in the cubase audio settings dialog, but this does not change anything...

another interesting thing: at cubase startup, the message "Pulsar XTC cannot be run in accelerated mode" shows up.
i think this has to do with the hardware of pulsar1, as pulsar2 is way more faster...

but anyway, perhaps someone knows the solution for this ugly problem...

cheers

Bensai,

Make sure you have the Pulsar II latency defaults to something around 10 You might find that its set at a silly high value.

hi tb

I just got a pulsar 1, so best latency for me is 25 ms - I can go with 13 ms, but then a lot of crackles etc occur when audio is being played. Should not cubase play the affected channel a bit earlier to knock out that latency...?

but is 13ms good enough to work with pulsar xtc under cubase ? I don't think this is good enough, it should be cubase playing the channels with XTC effects a bit (13, 25 ms) earlier to make it sound realy in time (effects on a voice is not that bad, but for example on drum tracks, even 13ms is really way too much....

from the cw forum, a comment from subhuman:

logicA 4.6 , 4.7 , 4.8 wich best for p3 subhuman 03.12.2001 / 17:39 Show thread

XTC mode seems best suited for mixdown and mastering, as latency doesn't matter as much at that stage... so you can seemlessly integrate other VSTi's and FX, and even other DSp cards that run as VST instruments/fx.

Pulsar mode is best for realtime performance, and maybe recording, this is why they give us the choice to switch!

okay, now I got it.
is the pulsar XTC card only working with delay, too (with ULLI I know... but anyway) ?
I would feel cheated if I bought such a card...with my pulsar1 it's different I know...

yes , if i understand your question.vst has a built-in latency that the software(logic or cubase) can adjust for,but only AFTER the tracks have been recorded.(in playback)vst has latency in the send and return to pulsar making it's live use impossible.(or at least no fun) pulsar mode is as low latency as most analog desks.(or prettydarn close)

yes, that's true, pulsar mode is pretty good what concerns latency. I just wondered if I could make it working under xtc, because for the moment cubase does not even play ahead the already recorded channels...
and I would prefer to work under xtc 'cause pulsar os is quite slow on my computer (p2, 333Mhz, 384Ram, working really ok with a good background project).
