Hi!

After a long period of no composing, I've now decided to start up again, using gigastudio, logic audio and my pulsar2 cards.
A couple of years ago, when I did compose, I still used win98se because it was faster and less ram-intensive.
I was wondering, should I go for win98se or winXP now?

Also: Last time I used pulsar 3.1c. Any great changes in 4.0?

This may seem like a silly question, but please remember I have not been using music software for more 2 years...
THanks!

My system:
AMD64:3500+
1024mb ram
A8N-SLI Deluxe
Geforce 6800GT
Samsung Spinpoint 250gb, and Raptor 74gb

Definitely XP with that kind of hardware.

As for SFP 4.0, it's mostly some aesthetics changes, and it's a little more stable and loads faster.

Some technical optimisations with 4.0...

>>> Works well with P4 HT enabled (3.1 wasn't very HT friendly !!!...).
>>> Scope 4.0 automatically set the PCI latencies for the installed Scope cards.

There are for sure other technical improvements that I haven't noticed...

W98se can't handle more than 512Mb of ram, so....

Hi!

Thanks for the answers.
So Logic 5.5, scope 4 and gigastudio should work just as smoothly in winxp as win98se?
Hmm, guess I better start using winXP then. Again, thanks!

unfortunally gigastudio doesn't support HT.

Grok probably meant that the problems due to HT's pure presence would be significantly reduced - which would indeed be an argument pro 4.0 as it makes installation more simple in many cases.
Other than that HT is a nonsense for non-optimized code anyway, which I doubt that Giga has

cheers, Tom
