Nuendo 2.2.0.35 + Pulsar XTC: Problem related to plug-in del

Hi,

After some testing I did with my new Pulsar XTC in Nuendo 2.2.0.35, I found that my problems are related to the plug-in delay compensation.

More precisely:

1)I can use as many XTC synths I want at the same time with zero problems. I can also use as many XTC FX I want as channel inserts at the same time as I use the synths, as long as it is only one per channel and none in the synth's VST output channel (I can use any other plugs as inserts in the XTC synths' outputs trouble-free). Even in this case, if I add another plug that needs PDC (UAD-1, Powercore, Voxengo) after the XTC plug, as soon as I press Play or Rec CPU load goes to 100% and Nuendo hangs. If I add it earlier in the chain than the XTC plug, it's OK. If the plug after the XTC one doesn't need PDC, it's OK again. If I don't use XTC synths, I can only use 1 XTC insert FX in each channel, only this time I can add any non-XTC plug I want afterwards. In all these cases, I can't use XTC FX on FX or Master channels.

2)I can use 1 XTC effect in the master section, as long as nothing else XTC related is used in the project. Add a second and Nuendo hangs.

3)I can use as many XTC FX I want in FX channels, but only 1 per channel and again as long as nothing else XTC related is used in the project.

Concluding, it seems that there's a problem when using XTC plugs in a row. It seems to me that it is definitely related to the plug-in delay compensation. It seems to me that something goes wrong when a second level of PDC has to applied by the host and XTC plugs are involved.

When testing the same things with a demo of Samplitude 7.21, there was a sound problem again, but the system didn't hang. In Tracktion 1.6.0.1, which has only channel insert PDC, everything works smoothly...

Note: When I say "XTC FX" it can be a Multi FX device; obviously, Nuendo sees that as 1 plug.

My system consists of the following elements:

AMD Athlon 2600XP+
Gigabyte GA-7N-400L
GeForce FX5200 GPU
RME HDSP Multiface
2xUAD-1 v.3.7
TC Powercore v.1.92
Pulsar XTC w/Scope 4.0
Win XP Pro
Nuendo 2.2.0.35

If anybody can help... PLEASE, do so!

If you work on SX2/N2 with an XTC and don't have this problem, please tell me what I may be doing wrong.

If you need more details about my system, ask.

I'll post the same to the Nuendo forum and I'll call Creamware on Monday.

Some further info:

All the above happens when using the RME driver. Using the ASIO Scope driver as a test doesn't give me any of the above problems apart from having... no sound, since my Pulsar XTC doesn't have any I/O. Using the ASIO Multimedia driver and the ASIO Direct-X Full Duplex driver doesn't hang my system like the RME, just results to a terrible performance.

For what it's worth, I got exactly the same kind of problems with SONAR 3 and 4 - one FX, fine; more than one FX, horrible noise.

What soundcard did you use?

It's actually a Pulsar II I've got, but got this whether I used the Creamware ASIO drivers or disabled I/O and used my Frontier Dakota (WDM or ASIO).
