MIDEX 8 and MIDEX 3 - Driver Update Win 7 32/64

Post by dante »

Now with Reason also going 64 bit soon ( and therefore rewire ) looks like I'm running out of excuses not to go Win7 64 bit.

Yeah I didn't see that one coming, Midex getting 64 bit drivers. I'm sure there were a lot of people who sold their midex due to the lack of 64 bit support.
I do have a fully occupied midisport 4x4 usb, but I might reconsider a Midex 8, if the prices won't go up again... (I'm still on XP 32 bit by the way)

Wow. I've slipped though a crack in space to a parallell universe where Steinberg actually give support to their consumers (sorry, customers). Amazing, like the unexpected 5.2.2 update after Cubase 6 came out. I was actually looking into getting an alternative to my Midex 3 but now it's reasonblt future-proof - might even get a second one as they're not expensive.

I read here that LTB is still part of Cubase C6, although its just not tested/supported by Stienberg. But some other users did some tests:

Wow it's been so long since I heard anything about LTB that I've forgotten if you have enable anything to use it, or does it just work out of the box?

It works out of the box because MIDEX processes it, if (the version of) Cubase is sending it.

From what I gather :

The MIDEX has 8 MIDI out ports. So if you send a kick beat bar one beat 1 to port 1 and a brass stab bar one beat one to port 2 on a (universal) serial buss, then either the kick note or the stab notes will be transmitted one ahead of the other.

But when they arrive at the MIDEX, LTB ensures that each of the ports 1 and 2 then on-transmits the kick note at the same time as the first of the brass stab notes.

So LTB is splitting a combined serial stream into (up to) 8 synchronised parallel streams.

Too bad this driver doesn't seem to work on the AMT8.

That is good to hear, I'm building a new DAW and also have a CopperLan MIDI interface (http://www.alyseum.com/al-88.html#.UwkAduOro3U) but it is good to know that I have options. I will use the one that has the most stable MIDI clock.

Did you also got it working on a 32 bit OS that is higher that Windows XP? According to this page (http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/uns ... dex_8.html) the unofficial driver works only for 64 bit.

No, I only used the original Steinberg drivers on Win XP 32. I had no system between Win XP 32 and Win 8 64 bit, so thats probably true that the new driver is only for 64 bit.

I found this on the Steinberg site:
Driver 1.9.0.3 for 32-bit systems is not compatible.
Please use a 64-bit Windows 8 and the working driver version 1.9.64.4
https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/kn ... /2020.html

So with 32 bit Windows 8.1 no Midex8. This information helps me to make a choice between 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 8.1.

You could do what I did and dual boot winxp 32 and win8 64. There's no reason then not to go 64 bit. I don't really see the point of upgrading from one 32 bit OS to another unless you have an inventory of stuff that doesn't work on 64 bit.

The only 2 things that I need XP for now is the version of the Behringer BCR2000 editor which i hardly use at all and an old browser app that helps authoring Scoperise where the preview mode doesn't work on later browsers which I could probably workaround in 64 bit if i had to.

You should use Mark van den Berg's editor: http://mountainutilities.eu/bcmanager , which works fine on 64bit. The Behringer one is rubbish!

In case you didn't see it before, I put together a tutorial about using BC Modular with the BCR2000, which makes use of the BC Manager software: http://bcmodular.wikispaces.com/Idiot%2 ... e+-+Part+1

Yeah I referenced that wiki here :

I may even have got the mountain software working on 64 bit - its been a while ...:)
