Post by breitner »

Just sharing a bit of news from Sonic Core. I got this message from SC support today:

"If you buy in our online shop Scope 5.0:
We can make you an offer for Scope 5.0 for your hardware 198,- EUR only inclusive upgrade to option Scope 5.1 64 Bit which is coming in about one month, with Mix'n'Master Pack 2 and Synth'n'Sampler Pack 2."

x64: 1 month => 6 months
OSX: 6 months => ? (36?) months

guess the progression, is it arithmetic, geometric? the limit for patience which tends to zero? or probably it is some differential equation... sorry, trying to distract my attention for a moment ;)

...ah yeah, sure, when it's done

haha-
no one can tell how long it will take to finish software, but there IS a working beta, so the bugs ARE being ironed out, even as we speak(no, i'm not one of the testers).

I want Scope 7.0.
Linux drivers, OSC in parallel w/ MIDI.
Optimised plugs and 16 x XLR's and AES/EBU I/O's.
STS is limited to 8GB's in XP64/Windows 7, so I would love to see Linux raise this to 192GB's.
8 x Chandler mic pre's built in.
The RAM increased to 12GB's and replace the slower DDR2 Elpida chips.

Meanwhile Back At The Ranch............
It's kind of fun busting S|C's balls about their release estimations.
Since all companies do this I have learned to multiply estimations by a factor 0f 4 w/ S|C.
NI was a factor of 5 with their 64bit version of Kontakt, so S|C can slide in their and release this upgrade in May.
I just hope they don't go to a factor of 6.
I am comfortable with 4's and 5's.
Thanks for optimistic boost though.
Actually thr longer they take the better maturity my hardware purchases become, so it ain't so bad.

Yeah, I'm still getting plenty of work done, and many other manufacturers, including some of the 'big ones' are just now releasing 64-bit (not all so successfully), so we're just about on schedule given the 'bigger picture'.

I'd like at least Scope 6 with dynamic DSP re-allocation/mapping on Xite, and more/bigger embedded VST functionality and a real sampler that rivals Kontakt/Independence, etc.

No, MMC is correct SC is the only company ever in the history of the universe to have ever been late delivering on an announcement date. No really...

I'm serious...

I have a feeling the GSIF 64bit drivers from Gigastudio will work in Scope.
The new XITE-1 32bit drivers work really well with it.
I am almost to the point where I will use Gigastudio again since I can convert Kontakt libraries.
Kontakt is nice but way too overbloated and slow.
Gigastudio allows 600 + polyphony on a fast Core 2 Duo, Kontakt is gagged by 24 stereo.
Wortha try 'eh?

Jimmy, have you tried G-player yet ? http://www.soundlib.com/gplayer/
If not, you should !
A very good gigastudio replacement. 32/64bits windows 7 AND osx 10.6 compatible. V2/V3/V4 Gig file compatiblity.
Only draw back, it doesn't load giga performance files.

Be well,

Well I never much liked GigaPulse anyways.
Thanks BiFop I shall check it out.
It's the Gigastudio engine that still can't be beat.
Garritan bought Gigastudio but so far he hasn't done squat with it.
I will try it, thanks chief.

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere before, but it's a pretty interesting article, appropriate not just to Gigastudio, but also to this discussion: http://www.filmmusicmag.com/?p=1770

I know all of the guys who were commenting.
At the end of the day developers were shunned and since the original Giga guys never shared secrets or developed libraries it died.
They are part of Sonnivox now.
Maybe they learned a lesson from their arrogance...
