MIDI routing from external device through Scope and OMS to Korg Oasys PCI

Post by MaximKorobov »

I’m still here, setting up G4 with MacOS 9.2.2.

Unfortunately Korg Oasys PCI settled in G4 don’t have MIDI I/O. To play it one should use OMS or FreeMIDI source.

Ok then. Pulsar 2 have MIDI. Let’s use it. Chain:
Korg Z1 -> Pulsar 2 (MIDI in and out) -> Scope routing -> OMS -> Oasys PCI.

Z1 -> Pulsar path works fine:

There are note on/off messages and works fine with Scope synths.
Scope project pass MIDI to sequencer input.

OMS looks pretty descent:

OMS -> Oasys PCI path works fine:

Oasys PCI awaits data from OMS

It’s even working with QWERTY to MIDI software

Where’s the catch? Looks like between Scope output and OMS.
As a MIDI OX user on Windows I don’t fully understand where is routing setup in OMS?

You need midi loop back or a sequencer to bridge between the two pieces of hardware.

That’s right. Any suggestions for exact tools? I mean not sequencer cause it’s separated task to work them, which is in progress.

Didn’t solve it using Cubase VST 5 and Oasys PCI FAQ.

SOLVE IT using Logic Audio Platinum 4.7:

(Take a look at green lines on Oasys PCI mixer’s first channel)

Phew. To jam one should turn on:
1. External device - Z1 in my case
2. G4
3. Scope with special MIDI pass through program
4. Logic Dongle EMU
5. Logic with routing setup
6. Oasys PCI editor

Can't see the last photo without you setting it to be publicly available ("anyone with link"). For future reference on that front, you can attach images to posts and even set them to be 'inline' when you use the full editor here. That will benefit future user as the photos will stay as long as the forums are here.

On the second note, if you route the input nipple in Logic's environment directly to the output for the OASYS, you won't even need to setup a track to be record armed or live monitors in Logic.

Sadly, I no longer have any Mac software from that era and can't even recall the name of the MIDI loopback tools in that era. I know there were some, and OMS may have even had that functionality built in but I can't find enough on this subject now on the first pages of any search engine I've tried. I'm sure the info is out there should you need it...

Yes, fixed using environment window in Logic. Also check new link please.

That will work indeed. However you can directly wire the input and output in the 'clicks and ports' layer of the environment:

Just wire either the SUM or the input port in question (better) directly to that multi instrument.

Tip, you can hold a modifier key when clicking there and get a dropdown menu of all items in the environment that will accept input so you can 'wire' between layers. Make sure you remove the multi that you're using for input if you do this...
