Re: Going 96K make the card unstable, and no "power"

This is normal behaviour... everything takes double or more DSP when running at 96khz. Also, because of the increased size, more modules have to be spread across DSPs, which can have various issues and probably leads to increased DSP usage. 9 DSPs spread across 2 cards ain't enough.

Re: the new STS

Personally I think that Kontakt killed the market long ago. There's very little market even for other native samplers. It's a real shame IMHO but that's life. I'd like to see some kind of 'anti-Kontakt' device for Scope... something like an MPC or Guru, centred around creative sampling and mangling ...

Re: Nails in the Coffin

The only thing I can really bring out of all this is that politics trivialises everything. I've seen a number of climate change-sceptic links from right-wing papers (Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail) - publications I cannot trust at all. Equally, it tends to be the left-wing press that jumps on the other...

Peak oil is a sham? With the current insane rate of usage? Would be interested to see a reference for that.

Not sure why I'm getting involved in this discussion but Gary is right on the money. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_ice_age I'm not one of those people advocating pointless waste of energy resources. There definitely needs to be a reduction in con...

Re: Linux - DSSI-VST with RoseGarden

SR1 - It seems ideological because you seem to take it pretty personally, and seem to have absolutely no empathy for what everyone in this thread, ostensibly all of them musicians, are saying. Instead you're accusing them of being lazy and uncreative. Nice one  If this is the attitude of all Li...

Re: Linux - DSSI-VST with RoseGarden

 Look man, I'm not gonna argue with someone so determined to believe in something. But out here in the real world, the vast majority of people find it unacceptable to even start a 2nd application like Scope (you do know what Scope is, right? Or did you find this thread on Google and join the fo...

Re: Linux - DSSI-VST with RoseGarden

The evidence is right up there in the first post, and all the workarounds you have suggested. When in a creative frame of mind, the last thing someone wants to do is perform unnecessary workarounds, start 15 different apps and remember to save their settings when 1 would do just fine, and so on.

Re: are some people truely a waste of time

From my experience, the only people who really are a total waste of time tend to be those with zero sense of objective self-criticism (and showing no signs of developing it), those full of ego and self-righteousness to an absolute level, and often simply rather stupid people (although not all stupid...

Re: Linux - DSSI-VST with RoseGarden

As with the solo track issue, the question is not whether there is a logical way for me to play 1 track and mute all the other or not. Ya, I can unmute 1 track and mute all the others. But why stop there when solo is much quicker and efficient I can see how the extra mouse click would impede the cr...

Re: SCOPE XITE-1 UPGRADE OFFER / MODULAR IV / SCOPE 5.0

Nice news. I still don't have the dough to get an xite but Modular 4 may actually make me update to Scope 5 (I'm eligible for keys but I haven't really felt the need to update yet). The new modules look very nice.

Re: i7 notebooks, anyone got them?

Never used them but a quad-core i7 should be at least 2x faster than my Core2Quad (Q6600), which IMHO is very fast indeed. Are i7-based notebooks now available?

Re: Mac advantages?

Jimmy, easiest thing is to find an easy to follow tutorial on insanelymac forum (genius bar tutorials section). The good tutorials link to the required kext files (drivers) etc. You do need to know what you're doing and read up a bit (sorry I actually meant a lot). It can be really easy if you're lu...

Re: Mac advantages?

Astroman - totally agree.. the older Mac systems certainly were incredibly elegant and efficient. Although the exception is OMS - CoreAudio/CoreMIDI is pretty amazing in comparison ;) I believe the tendency towards bloat and support-dependent hardware/software is industry-wide - it's the only way th...

Re: Mac advantages?

I'm running a hackintosh so I get no benefits of unified tech support/standard hardware/trendy look etc (although I have an apple sticker on the case  ). I personally simply believe Mac OSX is a better OS than any version of Windows I used. Vista/W7 interface makes me want to puke. The biggest ...
