scope with emu emulator x2
Does anybody use the emulator x2 alongside scope? If so how well can they be integrated?
I was thinking of getting recycle, and then saw that the x2 does twistaloop or whatever which looks about the same, plus you get the emu filters etc...
Anybody got some experience?

sample oscillator ignorance
I've never been able to get the sample oscillator to work in Modular 3. It always tells me that it can't load the sample that I either drop onto the module or choose through the browser. I know I must be doing something boneheaded, but I've read the manual and fiddled around a lot without any succes...

The syteks are an exceptional value. The designer is one of the engineers behind neotek boards which are some of the finest available.

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
you'd be amazed that there are $150 mics and $2000 mics using the same capsule. the electronics and case will be much nicer in the expensive mic....
That may sometimes be the case (thinking of the "telefunken" scandal a few years back), but just because an...

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
better to spend 3k on the mic pre than the mic... .
What's your reasoning for this (not to attack the idea, but it's just goes against my experience). I've used a number of good preamps in the 900-4000 range sytek, millenium, neve, etc... and so long as they provide ...

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
If I were choose to another preamp to compliment the focusrite voicemaster, I would go for one that aims to be more transparent. I would consider the sytec mp4x, focusrite green, DAV electronics, and others of that ilk. While I might drop 3k on a microphone, I'd be hard pressed to do so on a preamp....

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
Well there's places in London where i can get the blow job part. i would buy a mic for $1400, but not £1400. There's a big difference. i'm not saying your wrong, just that a £1500 mic should sound bloody amazing - do you get double the 'wow' factor doubling the price? ...

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
Still ,Mehdi has a point. i mean blowing a third of your budget just on the mic seems ludicrous. If a £1000 mic doesn't sound good then the manufacturer needs shooting. If i was going to spend £3000 on a mic i would expect a blow job thrown in.
Well, it's a poin...

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
AD/DA is not at all the limiting factor in digital recording these days, and the conversion that the scope cards can do is perfectly fine. There is a much greater difference in sound quality when changing from different microphones abnd preamps than between contempory decent+ quality converters. I t...

Re: what would you buy with ten grand buget?
If you're considering buying a $3k microphone, best also buy a top quality preamp that can keep up with it. My reasons for suggesting the Sanken and the sytek are because they both offer very clean hifi 'natural' sound. I won't say the sanken is without character -- but it's very natural and detaile...

excuse me for pricing in dollars, I'm in the States ($10,000 GBP = 15890 US$) Since you have a PC, a scope pro, and I assume a midi controller of some sort I'd suggest... Re: eventual SFP crash
That's an option, but I don't like to run cracked software, whether I own it or not. Sometimes they're stable but I've seen a lot stability problems when people I've known have demoed software that way. Most of the user reviews of the MOTU microlite end with "it's gone back to the shop." T...

Re: eventual SFP crash
:x And the saga continues! Happy that everything was working I decided to install Flexor 3 and Wavelab 6 so I could really get working. Wavelab 6 uses (uhoh) a usb dongle for copy protection. After it's installation the MOTU midi output in Ableton was unstable again. The system would hang up and I c...

Re: Turn off selective suspend feature of USB
Adding the DisableSelectiveSuspend key to my registry was necessary in order to get Ableton 7 and a MOTU microlite usb midi device to operate together without crashing.

Re: eventual SFP crash
I think there was more trouble in my setup than just the USB selectivesupsend issue. It could be that was just what pushed things over the edge into completely unusability. I suspect background processes related to some piece of software was causing mischief as well. I had previously corrected the I...

:D I've got good results! I did another clean format and reinstalled windows. I installed scope, and then ableton. Tested the stability using the scope midi in/outs >2000 bars no crash. satisfactory Installed the MOTU drivers. Tested again with scope midi in / motu midi out -- it crashed at ~180 bar...

Re: eventual SFP crash
Neutron: It's a plain old vanilla logitech ps/2 mouse. It uses the xp ps/2 driver nothing else. I've tried it with only SFP running and regular windows processes, monitored using Processexplorer. There doesn't seem to be anything running in the background. CPU performance is usually ~ 3% when the cu...
