Regarding what you are saying about "toys" well maybe I've been a bit guilty, but most things I still use one way or another, but bear in mind PCI is pretty old school and won't work in a new generation MAC so obviously SC made the shift with xite ...

Re: Getting old cards serviced
can you actually purchase a card on the website? i don't think so. the listing is there, but that doesn't mean that there is product. i don't think it will even take your money for a pci card, but you can write them a quick email and find out. S|C has never discontinued the cards formally, and as ...

"no, a 3 and 4 dsp card can run together and you still can use all i/os."
Is it not the case though that the ASIO driver is different for 1st generation cards such that they use different buffer settings or sizes?

Re: Getting old cards serviced
Thanks garyb for the insight you provide.
So if I was to purchase a 6DSP card for example from the website, it would likely be "reconditioned" since some time ago there was a buy back scheme in effect.
I don't know if SC were taking back 4 DSP boards as they (pulsar 1) seem to be the odd ball in ...

Re: Getting old cards serviced
Ah now I am starting to understand.
So I gather that first generation boards, as well as 2nd generation (creamware) boards including 3,6 and 14 DSP in totality are not as improved over current "mainboard" designes ie those that are sold from the webshop but in particular it is the 4 and 15 DSP ...

Re: Getting old cards serviced
i suggest a 14dsp card, if you can afford it. an XITE would be even better. you have to fit your budget(my internet computer has a 3dsp card). assuming that you like it, and that you are somewhat serious about music production, you will want more power.

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
The seller did say that the 5.0 upgrade is paid for.
I believe there was another brand called Fairlight and this is where the caveat exists.
Maybe someone with additional knowledge can comment.
Thanks dante you've been most helpful to me.

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
Not without paying for it. 4.5 to 5.0 is the free upgrade, not 4.0 to 4.5. If someone selling a board with 4.0 is telling you that you'll get 4.5 for free, they are either mixing things up with 4.5=>5.0 or trying to rip you off Id say.

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
Hey dante
I think I was told by someone wanting to sell a DSP card that having 4.0 allows you to run 4.5.
As I say, I don't know if there was a change to the driver in 4.5, meaning as garyb said running as a dumb sound card while being a stable system.
Basically you buy an old card from ebay, it ...

Cool, so you think I'd be safe to snap 'em up then!garyb wrote:yes, they can be serviced. this is not a throw away product.
I believe it is best to get a 6 DSP rather than 4, as 3 is not many resources and 14/15 probably harder to get.
Would anyone know how long these things are BTW ?

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
I can only say that in Scope mode, changing drivers in Cubase while Scope is running ( to and from SCOPE ASIO to onbard sound etc) is a lot more stable operation than it used to be ( it doesnt crash my system anymore ).
Thanks for that !

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
Maybe it can be done what I'm suggesting anyway, since as Mr Arkadin said, you load cubase first, so if I was working with one sound card and scope devices as wrapped VST's then I could change ASIO driver and work from there, problem I guess is then I'd loose those wrapped devices as they'd suddenly ...

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
I guess what I would query is why you would need both modes at once. To me, Scope mode by itself is all you need (with XTC thrown in as a bonus for those that want to work that way). But I cant for the life of me think of any functional benefit to running both at once, and if there was one, it ...

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
these two modes can't blend with each other. it's either one or the other. mix in the sequencer or mix in Scope, but the devices and presets are the same.
Thanks for the explanation, and I don't want to give short shrift to such a well detailed response, but why not do both, after all every bit ...

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
You have to open Scope first and add ASIO connections. Such that when Cubase opens, it will see those connections the same way it would see drivers.

Scope presets are stored in their own folder with the extension .pre - forget the VST paradigm, Scope is its own universe that will happily integrate with almost any host sequencer.

Re: Scope 4.0 v 4.5 v 5.0
I mean, a square wave lead is a square wave lead :)
This is a very important point I believe, since I use only Cubase and the "de-facto" standard preset mechanism fxp/fxb is no longer used.
