It indeed is a great tool, but we definitely need time for trial and error. I trimmed my XP to the bone, and as a result nothing worked like it used to or like it should. The question to ask is: what to keep in / leave out to get a working XP/Slim set. When I have some spare time to play with this ...

Oh yes, and there's two things more you need: creativity and inspiration.
As far as I know, neither of these can be downloaded  or can they??

@elliot: For me 1Gb is enough.. Guess it all depends on how hungry your sequencer program is (I use Logic Gold 5.5 PC) and how big your sample-pool is that you use.
Try it and you know it

To give you any directions you should tell us your setup (board, ram, cpu, busspeed)
As for memory parameters, in general you should go for low latency ram (yes they cost more, but can make the difference). I personally have good experiences with Corsair.

Hey Elliot, yeah, I've done a lot of tweaking of the PCI latency settings. I never found any noticable difference, except for very small or very large values of the latency timers. Small values (16 and below) result in stutter, high values seem to cause hangs of the system. When fiddling with ...

Concerning the cooling-problem I would like to share a recent experience with you. I recently experienced the necessity of good airflow myself... I had one of those huge SuperMicro towers, with an extra outletfan in the top-back, an extra inlet-fan (12cm, 7V, silent) in the side-panel. Yep, I just ...

And I believe it's been said before in this forum: stay away from the promise RAID controller. Only use the 865/875 chipsets native IDE/SATA busses. I have a P4C800E Dlx, acpi mode, rockstable. The best thing I recently did was adding two SATA disks in Raid-0 mode (striping), connected to the ...

It's been a while since I experimented with moving the IO board around, but I recall something about losing one DSP on my Scope SRB (from 15 to 14) when I mounted the IO board on it. Leaving the IO board on the Pulsar2 board gave me 6 DSP on the P2 and 15 DSP on the ScopeSRB.
