my piano has been in repair for 2 weeks and...
and I don't know what to do. My workhorse Yamaha p-250 got all staticky and randomly sending MIDI out, so I drove it to repair, and haven't heard back in 2 weeks. I've got all these ideas, and now's the only time to jot them down (with my fam in Tokyo) but I CAN'T!! It's driving me insane!!! I did f...

looking for vsts based on discrete wavelet transform
I'm looking for a way to get my transient processor better. Mainly in the context of busy mixes where it's easy for transients to be masked by other sounds, like a loud lead vocal. (any loudest thing in the mix drives the dynamics processing.. not broken, but I want it to be smarter) So anyway, I wa...

Re: first VST dll built!
oh man, Hornet released a very similar plugin http://www.kvraudio.com/news/hornet-releases-spikes---transient-processor-plug-in-34101 Well, anyway, it's not like these transient shapers never existed. I'm just going to keep improving mine as I use it on a couple more projects. It's hard to predict i...

Re: first VST dll built!
I think since early on, making something whether an engineering feat or creative outlet, had become my primary source of entertainment. I mean, once you know you can make new things appear out of nowhere, suddenly spending hours just consuming stuff seems less attractive. It just reminds me of all t...

my cat Pulsar
Very little known fact. My cat that I picked up as a stray back in Miami, in like 2007 or so, is named Pulsar. He was a stray, and followed me around the gated community, and even into my house, just 2-3 days before my move up to NYC. So we kept him, and I named him Pulsar. Obviously, I got it from ...

first VST dll built!
First project building a VST from wdl-ol is a port of a transient reviver that I build in synthedit. It's sort of become my go to drum transient sharpener so I rebuilt it as a 64bit win VST2 plugin. What it does is it detects attacks, and allows you to boost them to get those snappy drums. It's sort...

Haha, got WDL compiling
I spent a few hours setting up visual studio and WDL framework, and was able to get it compiling. I do some c# (within Unity3D), python, ruby, and a basic C, but rather unfortunately C++ is going to new, but hopefully I can pick up the basics from the practice projects. Coders would see that the pro...

Re: Great Free Effect - TDR Nova
haha braincell, perhaps you are correct. Your creative direction is in a class its own, and I respect that. You are much further into the journey than many have ventured. As for Tokyo Dawn label's music, I'll say they're well executed within their respective idioms. I see that as a positive compared...

Re: super juiced up piano etude
btw, I can kind of see the boogie connection, but I thought boogie was much more like electro funk, ie Zapp, fairly rigid bass lines. Chord palette is pretty much the same since I think it was more of a reprise of disco with the now more accessible synths (by the 80s). IMO my recent stuff is less sy...

Dyn EQ's are nice. Just realized they have pretty cool music too, didn't know they were an actual label. (you know, with more than like 1 artist, you know those "labels")

Re: mixbus 32c initial thoughts
wow, I didn't realize SSL emu was built INTO Reason. Pretty drastic move, but I've always thought mixers in DAW packages needed more character. Maybe not necessarily "modeled" after existing ones, but characteristics and operational "feel" that's been consciously designed.

mixbus 32c initial thoughts
I've been a closet fan of the Harrison mixbus series and have been a user up to Mixbus 3. Basically, the idea is to take Ardour and supercharge the mixer so that each channel's eq and comp uses some sort of emulation of the Harrison console's eq and comp. They've come out with a 32c and so I paid $9...

Re: Lupin the 3rd another go
huh, I remember the Loud Minority tune from hearing it once like 15 years ago. That trumpet line. I can't even remember why I heard that tune. Oh, I remember, my friend played it as his example of a montuno piano line.

Re: Lupin the 3rd another go
haha, didn't expect anyone to know U.F.O outside of a niche circle, even in Japan! Yuji Ohno and his music is very much tied to Lupin the III's identity, or I guess you could say Lupin the III's identity rests on Ohno's music. To my understanding, the best identifiable name I've been able to find fo...

Lupin the 3rd another go
I take a stab at the Lupin the 3rd theme once in a while. Lupin the 3rd is a popular Japanese anime series about a robber, Lupin III. You can hear the original here:

(I worship Yuji Ohno)
Mine's just a paraphrased version of the main theme.

Re: super juiced up piano etude
There ought to be a book of etudes like Czerny or whatever that only has cool phrases. Or well, I guess that's called practicing blues licks in every key, at increasingly grueling tempo. I got much better doing that as an adult than any crap piano etude book I did back in 4th grade.

Etudes. If you've taken lessons for any instruments, you come across them. The dumbest sounding, lame-ass sequences of notes that don't sound like anything, and give your fingers a workout. Who the hell writes these things? And for what reason other than for the agony of the young instrument learner...
