Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

don't know if it's still a valid tutorial here_ http://www.tim-carter.com/index.php?t=Midi+Latency+Problems&Menu=1&SubMenuId=22&ItemId=10 sorry if it's outdated, maybe not.... Thanks ... Interesting read ... I was just asking Gary about DirectMusic emulations .... ;) I might be trying t...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Yogi, sorry I didn't get to your PM yet. The clock isn't a device, but part if the modular modules from Sharc. The BCModular bundle includes a midi module that has clockk, as well as start/stop commands. Send clock out of the shell, and via Midi Sequencer device, pass it to your DAW. Then setup you...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

I use BCModular clocks in SCOPE to drive Ableton Live via a dedicated SCOPE Sequencer input (no other data on that port) Can you please tell me how you set up scope to do this ? Im trying to do that with cubase ... (I wrote about this before but ppl like frax spew so much ignorance and arrogance th...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

it should improve the acpi functionality, but i can't say if it will improve your system timing. I have googled that its the equivalent to HPET in Intel world ... But Im not 100% sure ... Ill research ot a bit more before enabling (any advice would be appreciated if anyone knows this ...) Regarding...

I tried /usepmtimer - but didnt see any change in performance ...

Should I enable ACPI2 though (for it to make a difference)?

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

You can run "bcdedit" on the command line with no switches, and it will report "Windows Boot Loader" settings, so you can see if "useplatformclock" shows up or not. It's best to check your DPC Latency (using DPCLat or Latency Mon), change settings, and after reboot che...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

@JK - i think HPET is called ACPI2 by intel (or so ive googled...) This is my bios screen (last image is the ACPI page) (There are actually a few other pages that might matter so I'm posting them as well ... Your help would be appreciated in regards to optimization ... (This was a custom build done ...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Of course ....

But latency would be CONSTANT throughout the whole part ...

In the test I mentioned , EACH HIT has a different offset ...
(Otherwise I would just qunatize the first hit and the rest would also be quantized ....

THATS my problem (not fixed latency ...)

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Thanks, I have already tried both ASIO1 and ASIO2 IOs in scope ... behavior seems unaffected ... (Not sure if I should connect something to the ASIO2 DEST clk input ...) I will try the clock thing tomorrow ... I am running WinXP SP~2 (I ran an offline SP3 update - but I am not sure if it completed p...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

p.s. If you are desperate to achieve sample accurate results with midi, take my sdk class. I will tell you it's pretty simple :) sorry for the adv You can see I'm digging up a sand storm. can't you .... Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

2) there is a buffer - but there is a mismatch / non-use of the timestamps .... There is a buffer inside "midi sequencer dest". That is fulled with "when possible" windows (or any other non-rtos) midi messages. Timestamps are disregarded. Scope reads that buffer and use it. End ...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Yogi you could post your MIDI file here I and others could run it in Cubase to a Scope synth and see what happens. Just program 2 bars of 16 notes and trigger an drum osc or something - record the audio ouput back to the sequncer (as audio) and see where the transients land ... (Or loopback and rer...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Lets recap: I am running cubase (5.52, XP) on a computer with SCOPE cards (PCI). I am trying to get the MIDI from what is programmed in the cubase piano roll - to the scope synths running (on the same pc) - with no large timing offsets (MIDI jitters..?) these jitters which I am experiencing result i...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

@bud Well, ive always gotten best results with "use system timestamp" - but im a newbie at using external MIDI (running scope synths and recording them). And my audio system is SCOPE PCI (duh) I imagined that since SCOPE has a buffer (of several ms) it could get the (timestamped ?) MIDI pa...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Yeah, Now I am starting to understand why Ive seen so many psy producers trim and position each "synth hit" in the Re-recorded audio ... (And thats what Ive been doing too - for example when trying to use saturn to generate an offbeat HH at 145BPM) - this is more of a problem when having s...

Thats exactly what most of this thread is about ...

Can you give me a clue as to how to achieve this ???

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Thanx fra77x, I am actually looking for a way to "slave" my cubase (I dont use any "external midi" hw - my scope synths are what I consider "external midi" for this case.) My problem is that cubase midi seems to jitter/wander ... In cubase there are options to sync to e...

Re: Mixing in Scope - Device latencies/phase problems

Thanks Tom, informative read - although it doesnt seem to have any new ideas ... Reagrding the other answers, Lets avoid diving back in to the debate on whether 3 and more sample differences in parallel processing , or 3 ms MIDI jitter is audible (they are) - and whether you can make music/psy with ...
