Re: cwm: Atze

Thanks Roy! You've made so many great contributions to the scope platform. I'm looking forward to playing with the new synth.

Re: Polyphonic Aftertouch

You'd be surprise how much outboard gear responds to polyphonic aftertouch. It's not often well documented but many synths can receive it. Just assign the controller# to a parameter and mess around. There is nothing particularly esoteric about receiving it, it's just rare because it was expensive to...

Re: sample osc in modular - anyone has it working?

I've always had the same problem. Modular patches with the samples incorporated into sample queues such as the Jaded800 have never worked either. It's frustrating that clearly it works for some, and not for others, and nobody seems to know why. My work around is to pipe audio through ASIO from ablet...

Re: DSP comparison request

VSS4 algorithm in the TC electronics Reverb 6/4000 is the ray tracing reverb that I was thinking of. Not sure as to the details. Im afraid not. They just used an enhanced VSS3 algorithm. The VSS4 does not use raytracing. But both Lexicon and TC Electronic uses acoustic auralization software when de...

Re: DSP comparison request

ok, I'll elaborate my point of pointless a bit because that's what it really is about... point less afaik there are no acoustic transmitters that allow a precise 'positioning' of sound in space similiar to the dots on screen which represent a fraction of a real world beam of light. Even the latter ...
btw, it's pretty pointless for 'stream-like' DSP data processing, think twice :D cheers, Tom
Ok way off topic now... I don't think the real-time aspect would be necessary. I'd be quite happy with a 3-D space translated into spacialized sound that you could render...

Re: DSP comparison request

To go off an another tangent, it seems like it would be a good idea (or at least very cool) to abstract audio/synthesis into a 3d vector language and do sound with a GPU.

Re: DSP comparison request

This is just for contemplation, and I'm sure is misleading in some ways, but for a 20 year old relative perspective consider the original ensoniq eps sampler and the original apple macintosh. Both used a motorola 680000 processor. The eps had a custom OS made for processing digital audio, while the ...

Re: Adern Announces Xor and Mojo, Two new plugins for the Scope

oh yeah, well I know what I did. Saved a few afterwards that come close, but that one was the best. Or maybe not, sometimes the ears just need a rest. :-) If you want to make something similar, play around with the morphing oscillators and the all pass filters. XOR is a fantastic sounding, and incre...
Why do you think Sytek can't make that Burr-Brown option on 2 channels switchable? How nice would it be if you could just switch between the two preamp types on all 4 channels? Re: Condenser mic single diaphram / dual diaphram

With where you're at in recording, I'd suggest investing in quality dynamic mics, rather than mid low/ mid priced condensers. Shure SM7, EV RE-20, Sennheiser 421. If you want something with a bit more condenser like sheen, a Sennheiser MD441. These will always be useful. The only exception, would ma...

Re: Adern Announces Xor and Mojo, Two new plugins for the Scope

I must say I like Xor very much. The modulation system is clever, and effective. The 12 dB has a lot of character, and the morph / sync / block oscillators are really fresh. The presets tend to go for BIG effect, but the synth is also really nice for smaller variation modulations with grit.

Re: background noise

I've done some more measurement comparisons to give the scope S/N ratio some context. First, I followed the advice that I saw elsewhere (I think in another thread here at planetz) and ensured that my motherboard was properly screwed in to chassis. I'd been lazy with the screws and there had been sev...

Re: background noise

I did some more measurements. For comparison, I get 85 dB S/N with an external preamp/converter combination (sound devices) running off batteries. So ~80 db for the scope card inside a computer isn't really too bad. I imagine if I had well designed wiring in my apartment it might even improve.
