i would have thought it was intrinsic to the nature of posting that anything written (unless directly stated otherwise eg. a quote) would be a person's opinion, otherwise why write it? i tire of seeing IMHO etc. - of course it's in your fucking opinion, you're writing it. Do you you go to the pub ...

[quote="medway] What did I adapt? I don't understand what you're referring to. I see you've quoted where I talked about capturing via the STS. That would not affect this tests as its post summing and doesn't alter the sound. It's merely a recorder. I could have captured into a DAW, same thing. So I ...

But due to capturing the mix using the STS the bounces werent exactly aligned. And I didn't hear a change anyhow so this delta doesn't seem important anyways.

Hmmm... there was a slight difference in your tests - you had to adapt something in order to get the closest to an a/b comparision you ...

hi garyb,

are you sure they used 44.1khz? Nobody in the movie-industry uses it anymore...

tom

uhh, yeah. why don't you ask mr Zimmer yourself? how about all those tracks done on crappy adats that won grammys a few years ago? ever heard a sony 2" digital machine @ 44.1k? awesome. the only reason ...

Ok so after speaking with Neil I see there are different limiters being applied to both the mixes so perhaps its not completely on even ground. Neil did say they limiting was very subtle but still I'd like to hear something removing that variable.

In fact I'll just do a test of a current track I'm ...

it was mackie who quoted an engineer in their literature for the original 8-bus mixer. "i work on SSLs all day long and my mackie 8-bus sounds better than any SSL i've heard."(or pretty close to that)

not me.

scope does sound better at 16bit than a soundblaster would at 24bit, if that works for ...

Neil i think you misunderstood me.

but it's true. cwa is making no official 88.2k claims. i knew that your card was locking to 88.2k, the problem is that it reported that samplerate as 96k. that made cubase play back at the wrong speed.

So, if I take a Sharpie & draw "88.2k" on the ...

Wonder of Wonders...

Well, I find this very interesting: I got my Project Card to sync to 88.2k yesterday - what I did was to pull it out of my Cubase PC & put it in my Paris rig, which happens to be running WinMe, loaded the drivers, the software (which "hung" a few times & thusly scared me a bit, based on a previous ...

no, it's a design flaw in Intel's Pentium 4 processor - when that CPU was released a couple of years ago it was pretty widespread - meanwhile most software should be patched (or modified) according to it.
Never experienced it myself, but it's said to lock up machines with sudden high CPU loads very ...

...and in both instances the project goes from running fine at around 60% of my CPU meter, to pretty much full lockup & not being able to run at all at 96k... it's not the disk streaming aspect, either - that meter in Cubase stays fairly low, but the CPU usage maxes out at 100%....

I hardly dare ...

This is surely not my cup of math, but the load increase you report does in no way corelate to a 'slightly higher demand of resources'.

That's true, but I even tried two different methods of conversion, and - on my PC at least - it STILL puts the system over the top, resouce-wise, to try & run a ...

once again though, he says that it's easier to implement a good filter at 96k, but that it's perfectly possible to achieve the same results at 44.1k. i would assume that for cheaper ad/da there's much more of an issue than with better components.

What? I can't hear you... you don't have enough ...

Well there's actually 2 drives there, and the installer is on D and Scope is on C. Yes you're right something is preventing them, which is what I find so odd. I wish there was some way to enable logging for the installer/Scope so I could troubleshoot better.

I would definitely try moving the ...

I've been installing from the harddrive and a network share using both a freshly downloaded zip & one that I had lying around on my fileserver.

I don't have a 4.0 cd (2.04 & 3.1c only on CD) and I think that a network share is as good as a cd anyway, especially mapped as a drive.

No, my thoughts ...
