ken- yes, that's the one, I think its almost exactly fourteen minutes. Its truly curious, almost miraculous, becuase its very boring on one level - lots of repetitive little ostinatos which gradually phase around one another, over a very simple and gradually shifting harmonic structure, but at the s...

this thread is fairly deep! for the ultimate in "music as a doorway to spiritual experience" I highly recommend John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme". Even non-jazz heads should own this, IMHO, if you're seriously interested in music with a deeper message. This is one of those things ...

hi ken, your post above went up just as I was composing mine you wrote Actually I'm wonderin'.. you got time x frequency for a 2d waveform.. what would the 3rd axis be if you were to make it 3d? Correct me if I'm mistaken, but 2D waveform should be time x amplitude (or voltage or something) and 3D i...

This would be great fun. In theory, it should not be very difficult. all you'd need is some sort of graphical drawing thingy linked to wavetable data. but where could this most easily be implemented? I mean, several leading sequencers generally already have good curve drawing tools for things like e...

Sub's approach, above, ought to fix you up.

also, Martin Walker has a pretty thorough and informative discussion of ACPI in an article on XP for DAW in recent Soud on Sound. I haven't yet checked if this article was also exposed on their website - This time I bot my copy on the news stand

We've seen a lot of interesting posts on this sampler family recently, which suggests its a very popular use of Pulsar. Wonder if a dedicated STS forum, along the lines of the Modular forum would make sense. I can appreciate that the PlanetZ tree has sprouted quite a few branches, but I like the ide...

second that. all of us on this site really owe alot to sub, and directing a bit of business his way seems a fitting reward to his efforts to help the pulsar community. bet he'll offer a competitive price too! my next DSP add-on will be from Infinite Vortex! [the preceding has been an unsolicited, un...

Any PlanetZers in the beta group who might offer a taste of what it looks like (beyond what we have seen in the announcement) ?

Getting soundfont multiple velocity triggers to map into STS overlapping keygroups is a great idea. I am not a Chickensys Translator user (yet!) but someone who is registered with them might want to send them an email and suggest they implement this in a future version. Perhaps the best way would be...

interesting responses It appears CW is pretty well established in several major European markets, well supported by dealers and well followed in the industry press. I'm Asia-based, and most of the newsagents here sell US and UK editions of these mags. Anyway, your responses suggest that the low prof...

okay, here's the update. Turns out - solution couldn't be simpler. Started by trying the easiest of the above suggestions. I went into Win Explr, and renamed STS5000 Device to "STS 5000" (i.e., inserted a blank) restarting Pulsar, on first open of a problem project, still got error warning...

once upon a time it was MOTU performer for me, then Cubase

now, I've got Logic 5 "in the mail" the distributor assures me.

time will tell.

I looked at the Garritan website some time back. The philosophy and approach they describe sounded quite appealing, but of course the proof's in the pudding. (or is it the pudding's in the ear?!?, or something) But Garritan looks like its Giga only. I want to stick to STS ad I don't think that's a d...

Sub's right - the progress is relentless. No matter when you commit to new tech, by the time you get it all set up, de-bugged, and working well, its already dated by the nextgen stuff. At any rate, there are new memory standards just around the corner which will make DDR266 look slow. DDR333 will be...

okay, here's a sampler question I have East-West's Ultimate Piano (Akai format), which I like very much. It has a couple of Steinways, a Fazzoli, and a Boesendorfer, all in various configurations and RAM footprints. But when I load these up in STS, I notice that many of the underlying samples are tr...

thanks, guys, I'll try all these suggestions and see what works. for the record, my install procedure was 1) wipe HD, clean XP install, tweaks, etc 2) installed Pulsar v3 from CD, followed by 3.01b downloaded from CW, followed by powerpack 3) installed sts5000 and transient designer, both also downl...
