Oh, gaming, good! I agree, indeed, my idea is targeted more for a living room solution. For fans also have a look for the Badboy series from Blacknoise, combined with Enermax PSU this can be very much low noise.
Cheers, Micha

64 bit is IMHO not really a question now, maybe in 2 years, when more of our programs are available, compiled with 64 bit options. There are some mobos out with sockets for the Pentium 4 M (the one for the notebooks). How about this solution? The advantage: They are the lightest in power usage. Comb...

yes, I think the actual drives are fast enough and in most cases its possible to somehow repair a damage. Without the need to reinstall everything and always having to backup. But the 4 disk solution is pretty cool, normally you check the damaged disk and that's it, the mirror takes care to find out...

With RAID0 (striping) you double the risk of failure. If one disk fails, that's it. So backup regularily and check the disks. Normally you do no partitioning at all, because the trick is, that the partition in reality is two disks (and to avoid mess in the stripe tables). They only know clusters+sec...

Input is 24 bit, so it depends on what software you use for recording and what routing modules you take for ASIO. You have choice for ASIO to reduce bus usage, like with 32 bit you'll need double bandwidth compared to 16 bit and have even more channels for input. It is a bit difficult in the beginni...

had a look at http://www.maudio.de/d_delta.htm Latest driver is from 12. this month. WDM, so that's all he'll need. Changes in SP2 didn't affect drivers that much, just a bit bug fixing. SP2 is very much more about internet, security etc. so 99% of the hardware doesn't even care. And the rest is: we...

DarkStar is a beast for bass+fat basic sounds, Ambient for moving pads based on Waldorf synthesis, Solaris can have anything combined with anything. DS is light on DSP usage, the other ones heavy. Depends on what you want for the start and for your music and it's no fault to own all of them. Solaris...

Have a look at the next version (9.3) of Awave Studio. It can read out AKAI, Roland or Kurzweil. CDs are shown like in explorer, layers as subdirectories. Converts directly into sts Format.

yes, it's just a balance thing between the one timer (hardware) unit and the two or more processors. Very helpful in case you need it. Thank you  I found this in the Library: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/perfmon/base/eventtrace_header.asp So it seems to be ...

Careful, the information is good old NT 3.51/4.0. Have a look for XP etc. at http://www.danisoft.com/services/Boot.INI_Reference.jsp So I think that you cannot use this option to speed up or have more accurate timing by setting higher resolution, but you can get your 2 or more processors to coexist ...

Step 1: normalize, -1 or 0 dB. To have the noise LOUD.
Step 2: denoise, with CEP/Audition I take a noiseprint somewhere between two pieces and reduce 80%, to keep some room.
Step 3: refresh with PsyQ etc.

My new toy, thus first impression: plastic, so not to recommend for live gigs. Will look a bit very used after ten... Size: the thing is pretty deep, so measure your desk if it fits, before you buy. Now for the "inner value": The keyboard is good, immediate response, nice feeling. The slid...

thinking about opening a pub called "hope for trondheim" near 90. 20% benefit for msn users included, of course. Drinks served from 45% upwards, below doesn't really help you. And you have the ferry to clear up again.

yes, it's best at hiss reduction, just the price... And cannot remove backward noises (the solo is so hot somebody let fall down his beer bottle etc.) like Audition or Cedar can do.

more or less what I do with my "wednesday-tapes": recording 24/44', level about -5 dB, normalize, noiseprint/remove hiss and the "raw material" is ready for whatever optimaster/psyQ etc. Normalize/hiss done with Audition. Help possible, no big thing for me.

Socket 775 mobos have different pins for the CPU and PCI Express instead of AGP. Latest tech. Prescotts can be very hot, so quiet cooling is a problem. Good solution is Thermalright XP-120. Intel boards are not that loaded with features, but fast.

** nero is good, use it. my personal preference is Plextor, for budget LG.
*** i prefer Wavelab or Audition for normalize in 32 bit, converting to 16 bit as the very last step.
