NOAH Screen scrambled

One final idea ....!!

Isn't there a company which repairs Scope PCI cards ?

Perhaps I could send them a video of the Noah display starting up normally then becoming scrambled.

They might be familiar with that and could give me some clue ..??

Thanks Gary and Budweiser will look at those .
There's obviously some software problem causing the scrambled display because it works fine up until loading the system...so it's obviously not a loose ribbon cable etc inside...

Do you have a chance to check the PSU ?
Maybe some voltage the display needs in stable condition drops shortly after powering up the machine.
These aren´t standard ATX PSUs,- I guess it´s what was used for computers in Intel P3 times.

OTOH, I recognize only the font/character set isn´t visible in both rows of the display,- so can be you really need a new display.
Have a look if these´s something printed on the back or elsewhere on the display and google for it.
These days, there´s a good chance to find a replacement @ebay since there are small companies offering all kind of LED and OLED displays for old gear,- samplers, other MIDI modules, keyboards etc..

Thnx Budweiser....well possibly.

What worries me is that the display is working perfectly at power up ..and Loading system ....buta few seconds later it then it becomes scrambled and unreadable.
So the LCD is actually fine.
It's either some sort of sudden voltage drop ..( but the display doesn't get dimmer )
Or
It's a software issue ....I tend to believe it's this but that's just a guess.

Do you know how to contact those repair guys ?
Apparently they're in Germany ( ? )

I would guess it's a voltage sag (capacitor/PSU) or some trace (broken solder) that isn't used until that point, hence my response. Sagging power or cap is the most likely...

With "standard" I meant today´s ATX PSUs.

Some time ago, my tech, he himself owning a Noah EX himself, said there´s something special.
Connector(s) ?
A voltage which has to deliver enough mAh and needs to be stable ?
I dunno.

Possibly "old school" explains,- no ?

You say, the Intel Pentium 4 qualified ATX PSUs will work and modern ones do too ?
I´m pretty sure the P4 qualified ATX PSUs were different from Pentium 3 qualified ones.
I know because I toasted a P4 qualified one when connecting to a P3 socket ASUS mainboard.
It was the connector in that case.

I have a spare 500 Watt ATX PSU that was running an asus z89 ( I think ? ) mobo that had 3 Scope PCI cards .
I noticed the Noah PSU has similar bundled power leads / connectors
Will give it a try ....
This Noah issue actually does seem like a faulty PSU .

I swapped in a spare 500 watt ATX .

The old one I removed was 250 watts ATX so there's a bit of power headroom now also .

Hey, that´s great,- congrats !!!

B.t.w., I´ve got the info for Noah PSU ...
It should deliver stable -12 volts,- and not all the PSUs do.

Seems quite stable so far ...

Hey , trying to install USB drivers here .

It says to select Windows via the System/ Device/USBcom menu then turn off the Noah then connect it's USB and turn it back on again when XP is running.

I downloaded v1.1 from S-C Downloads and burnt it to a data CD
( the CD burner in this XP laptop is dead so I have an external CD burner connected via 2 USBs )

When I turn on the Noah again WinXP picks it up ..then the wizard finds the CD and I can hear it working .
But then "The wizard could not find the software on your computer..."
Did I miss something here ?

Where are the actual USB drivers in the disc? maybe I should point directly to them?
I'm starting to remember how touchy XP can be.

set to "ignore" and make it "system default".

Reboot and install the Noah remote Editor software v1.1.
Finally you should have working USB, MIDI, WAVE and ASIO drivers and can use it for playback of media players.
ASIO works too, but because of age it´s not as good as today´s ASIO drivers,- RME or such.

When I used Win XP for Scope, I had to do also for Scope v5.1

You will have to do this for most things now, the certificates in WinXP will have expired for most signing purposes.

Hi Budweiser ,

Noah is set to Windows

I set XP Driver Signing to "Ignore" , set as Default , Rebooted and tried again .

XP finds the Noah . I selected "Install From Removable Media"
I can then see/hear the CDR searching the Noah disc.
But I'm still getting "The wizard cannot find...."

Should I install the Noah software first and get back to this later instead ?.

Actually I think it's all working.
The Windows XP installation messages appear to be wrong ...

I have the software installed and controlling the Noah and ADAT out to my Scope system .
